Oculoplastic surgery is specialised plastic surgery around the eyelids and face. It is also called oculo-facial surgery as the eyelids are continuous with the forehead, cheeks, and deals with the related tear system (lacrimal) and orbits (deeper structures surrounding the eyeball). Lacrimal surgery is specialised surgery on the tear ducts for watering eyes in children (congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction) and adults, from whatever cause. Oculoplastic surgeons assess and distinguish the many different causes of watering eyes and carry out tear drainage surgery. Surgery often involves endoscopic endonasal approach which is a minimally invasive surgery.
Oculoplastic surgeons train as ophthalmologists (eye surgeons) and then sub-specialise in oculoplastic surgery. They therefore have an in-depth knowledge of the eyelids, the eye and their function.

Dr Elaine Chee is a Partner and Senior Consultant of Eye and Retina Surgeons. She is also a Visiting Consultant to the Singapore National Eye Centre. She completed her medical degree in the National University of Singapore and was awarded the Dean's List in her final year examinations. Dr Chee completed her speciality training in Ophthalmology in the Singapore National Eye Centre and underwent further sub-speciality training in Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery. She was subsequently awarded the Ministry of Health Scholarship to pursue further Oculoplastics and Aesthetics training in Samsung Medical Centre under Professor Yoon Duck Kim and in Kim’s Eye hospital under Dr Jae Woo Jang, in Seoul, Korea.

Dr Goh Swee Heng is a Partner and Senior Consultant at Eye & Retina Surgeons, Camden Medical Centre. She is accredited to practice at as a consultant in ophthalmology at the Gleneagles, Mt Elizabeth and Mt Alvernia Hospitals. She is also the medical advisor to the Hainan Goh Clan Singapore since 1988. She helped the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation ( Singapore Chapter ) to set up the Eye Medical Department locally and remains as the consultant in charge of the Eye division of the TIMA (Tzu Chi Medical Association ) overseas medical mission to Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
